The Rhinelander High School wrestling team battled their way back on Thursday from being down 9-16 to Mosinee to defeating the Indians 54-16 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium. The Hodags won seven contested matches and added three forfeit wins, scoring 45 unanswered points to earn the convincing Great Northern Conference victory.

Rhinelander started the night strong and won their first two bouts before Mosinee would record three straight wins to take the lead. At 120, Hugh Wiese gave RHS an early 3-0 lead after an 8-5 decision over Logan Johnson that previously pinned Wiese earlier in the year. In the opening period Wiese went down 3-4 and clawed his way back to tie the match up 5-5 at the end of the second period with a last second takedown. He would take a 6-5 after selection the down position and had a takedown with 43 seconds left in the third and held onto win.

First year sophomore wrestler Cole Lehman followed at 126 and pinned Peyton Cline in just 51 seconds. The win would put the Hodags up 9-0. But that's when the Indians battled back and won three straight matches to take a seven-point lead. First Mosinee's Chase Kmoseno pinned Brady Schreiber at 132 at 1:16 in the first period. And at 138 Cole Coppock pinned Trevyn Rappley with 20 seconds left in the first to pull Mosinee within three points (9-12).
The Indians would than take a 16-9 lead after Tristan Ickowoski would win a 17-8 decision over Cayden Neri at 145 pound. The tables would turn and started the rally back for Rhinelander as they took the next three contested bouts starting at 160 pounds.

The Hodags' got another pin from first year wrestling sophomore Joe Fugle that sparked their run. Fugle took a 5-0 lead in the first and 12-0 lead in the second on his way to a technical fall while battling up a weight class. And just 18 seconds into the third recorded a pin over Noah Meshak that would bring RHS within one point. Walker Hartman would put the Hodags back ahead for good after earning a fall over Mosinee's Jayden Cherek at 170 pounds. Hartman pinned Cherek 29 seconds in the second period and RHS went up 21-16 and never looked back.

At 182 pounds Connor Lund secured a 6-5 decision over Ben Folwarski. Lund clawed back after being down 1-2 after the first and 3-4 in the second. With just three seconds left Lund had a take down and secured the decision. Trevor Knapp at 195 pinned Thomas Obremski in 52 seconds and RHS went up 30-16.

Mosinee then had three straight forfeits which pushed Rhinelander ahead 48-16. Ben Sinclair (220), Dan Schramke (285), and Tanner Schmidt (106) all earned forfeit wins. And at 113 Tim Fox closed the night and earned a fall over Kade Kmosena in just 23 seconds and the Hodags would win 54-16.
