The Rhinelander High School wrestling team battled at the Northern Badger Classic that concluded Friday in River Falls. The Hodags finished in 4th place out of 44 teams and walked away with one individual title and added three runner-up finishes in the process.
Senior Jacob DeMeyer earned the championship title at 152-pounds for RHS. In the championship round DeMeyer defeated Nathan Fuller of River Falls in a 4-3 decision for the win. Fuller is honorable mention in the Wisconsin Wrestling rankings at 152 pounds, while DeMeyer is current ranked second.
Rhinelander seniors Tyler Olson (126), Alec Kurtz (195), and Colton Krueger (220) each recorded second place finishes at the Badger Classic. And fellow senior Rueben Guzik (120) would add a third-place finish for Rhinelander. Freshman Tim Fox finished in ninth place at 106 pounds and finished with a 5-2 record. While Eric Grulke placed 12th at 145 pounds.
The Hodags will return their Great Northern Conference schedule Thursday night when they host Lakeland at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium. Varsity is set to begin at 6:30PM.
