The Rhinelander High School volleyball team could not keep pace with Medford on Tuesday night and fell in a Great Northern Conference match. The Raiders rallied past the Hodags and swept them in three sets at Raider Hall.
RHS fell to 0-2 in the GNC standings and are now 1-11 overall. Points were hard to come by for Rhinelander, as Medford made the Hodags earn all their points. In the end the Raiders cruised to 25-8, 25-8, 25-6 victory.
Despite the tough loss, 19 of Rhinelander's 22 points they scored on the night were through kills or service aces. But when the Hodags were given the chance to score more they only completed 64% of their serves and recorded eight service errors and another 13 service receive errors.
Sophomore Ariel Pauer would led the Hodags' offense with six kills on the night, she also added three digs and two blocks on the night. Junior libero Hannah Worachek would anchor Rhinelander's defense and led the team with eight digs and recorded both the teams’ service aces. And setter Aryssa Zasada finished with 17 assists.
Emily Jorgensen would add four kills and Kahlie Arneson recorded three kills in the loss. Julie Breivogel would tally four assists and Novalee Juel also added a kill.
Tuesday was Rhinelander's only match of the week, but will have a busy schedule looking ahead. First RHS will be on the road at Wausau East on Monday night and will turn around and host Antigo on Tuesday. The Hodags will then compete in a quad at Three Lakes Thursday as the teams final tune up before the Great Northern Conference tournament in Antigo on Saturday.
