The Rhinelander High School golf team ended the week and finished strong, placing first at the Hodag Invite held at Northwood Golf Course on Friday. The Hodags shot a 377 and was the lone team to crack a 400 in the four-team invite. There was also only four total golfers who broke a score of a 100 on the day. It also marked the fourth consecutive match for the varsity squad.
Senior Nick Twite and freshman teammate Kole Gechas finished 1-2 overall. Twite shot a 13-over par round of 85 including shooting a 39 on the back nine. He also carded a birdie on the par-5 14th hole. Gechas was only four-shots shy of Twite for the runner-up spot, shooting an 89 on the day. His highlights included five pars and a birdie on the par-4 10th hole.
Neil Mathews had the third best finish for RHS and would place sixth overall with a round of 101. Nick Schiek was right behind Mathews and recorded a 102 to finsih eighth overall. And Cooper Kovac rounded out the varsity carding a 117.
Rhinelander will be back in action on Tueday for the the fouth leg of the Great Northern Conference tourmament that will be held at Timber Ridge Golf Club in Minocqua. From there, the Hodags will host the fifth leg of the conference race on Friday at Northwood Golf Course and will close out the week with an invite at Merrill on Saturday.
