The Rhinelander High School cross country team had a solid evening at the Charger Invite on Tuesday with six harriers earning medals on the evening. The RHS boys finished fourth while the RHS girls placed fifth in Wittenberg where the top-30 runners of each race earned medals.
Junior Jacob Weddle led the way for the Hodag boys, finishing 10th on the hilly 5K course with a time of 19 minutes, 23.40 seconds. Shawano freshman Alec White finished first at 18:06.02. Wittenberg-Birnamwood was first in the boys standings with all their top five all finishing in the top-19. Shawno boys were runner-up and Bonduel was third. The RHS boys finished fourth overall out of 12 teams.
Rhinelander's second best finish on the boys' side came from sophomore Cal Laggis who placed 20th at 20:06.68 and also earned a medal. And earning the last medal on the guys side was junior JC Adams who finished 30th with a time of 20:35.16, edging Isaiah Moss (Menominee) by 0.12 seconds.
Senior Levi Smith placed 40th (21:19.70) and junior Daniel Goldsworthy finished 43rd (21:32.16) to round out Rhinelander's top-five. Freshman Cody Ruetz (49th; 21:45.90) and senior Konnor Kennedy (53rd; 22:02.23) rounded out the Hodag varsity.
On the girls' side of action, Rhinelander junior Abbey Henrichs led the way again finished ninth out a field of 87 runners with a time of 23:21.2. Junior Alison DeNamur had the second best finish for the RHS girls and finished 21st overall with a time of 24:37.66. And sophomore Emma Germain was the the final girl to medal for the Hodags and finished 27th at 25:04.08.
The RHS girls finished 5th out of eight teams where Shawno was first overall after their top-four runners all finished in the top-seven. Bonduel was runner-up followed by Rosholt and Amherst. Sophomore Odessa Arce (Shawano) and sophomore teammate Grace Beyer went 1-2 overall with the top time coming in at 21:26.65.
Sophomore Sage Flory was 13.48 seconds away from earning a medal and placed 32nd at 25:33.61. And sophomore Aubrey Schiek rounded out Rhinelander's top-five in 35th place clocking in at 25:51.49. Sophomore Megan Brown (38th; 26:06.15) and junior Ella Schiek (40th; 26:28.81) completed the varsity lineup.Freshman Aubrey Younker was 41st and sophomore Ellie Van Camp was right behind in 42nd.
Rhinelander will get a break in competition and won't be back in action until Saturday September 21st when they take part in the 63rd Bill Smiley Invitational at Tribute Golf Course. The Division 1 girls varsity race is set to being at 10:35AM with the boys Division 1 to follow at 11:10AM.
