The Rhinelander High School boys' basketball team, playing in their first WIAA Sectional Finals in 12 years, hung with a powerful Rice Lake Warriors team for a half before a pivotal third quarter put the game out of reach, as Rice Lake defeated the Hodags 72-49 at the Boson Companies Fieldhouse in Marshfield on Saturday.
The Warrior's 6'10" junior phenom Henry Ellenson, one of the top basketball prospects in the state, tallied 34 points to lead all scorers. Kent Mathews led the Hodags with 17.
"They're just too good of a team," said Rhinelander High School head coach Derek Lemmens. "We knew that we had to keep this close, we had to put the pressure on them, in terms of finishing, and if we let them have a big run, it's just too talented of a team, and that's exactly what happened."
