The Rhinelander High School baseball team couldn't slow down Antigo at the plate on Thursday when they were defeated 10-2 at Stafford Field. The Robins finished the night with 15 hits to earn the Great Northern Conference win. Antigo clinched the GNC title outright with their win earlier against Medford. The Robins would take a 3-0 lead when Rhinelander battled back to plate their only two runs of the contest in the third to get within run. But Antigo didn’t slow up and added two more runs in the fourth and did the most damage in the fifth frame when they had put five insurance runs on six hits.In the Hodags fight back, Easton Senoraske started with a walk on one out. Pitcher Jacob DeMeye singled to left field next. And on a wild pitch, both runners advanced into scoring position. Brandon Reinthaler drove in Senoraske on a ground out. Brad Comer singled followed by a RBI single to right from Brad Quade to bring in Rhinelander's final run of the game. Alec Modrow walked to load the bases but Tyler Blomdahl retired the inning on a strikeout to end the threat. The Robin's Brian Cuevas Ruiz answered back and charted a sacrifice RBI in the fourth. Antigo would follow with back to back walks and a passed ball to place runners in scoring position. Max Noinsky would drive in the final run for Antigo in the frame to give them a 5-2 lead. The Hodags had no luck in the fourth when they had three consecutive flyouts and set the stage for the Robin's who recorded five big runs in the fifth.Antigo would use four straight hits off DeMeyer to start their rally and added three doubles to put the game out of reach for the Hodags, who were unable to capitalize at the plate and slow up the Robins's bats. Nowinsky's RBI double chased DeMeyer from the mound and brought in senior Brandon Hess. After giving up a single to Brady Tatro, Hess had a strikeout to get of the jam and end Antigo's massive inning. Rhinelander tried to answer back in the fifth, and DeMeyer leadoff fifth with a single down the third baseline. And Quade singled to center, but the Hodags left their final two base runners of the night stranded. The Hodags finished with six hits led by DeMeyer and Quade who each charted two apiece. But that was not enough to keep up with the 15 hits Antigo pounded out.At the mound Nick Greening pitched four innings in the victory and cashed in on a RBI double in the first and third frames to give the Robins an early jump.Hess was able to keep Antigo off the board in the final 2 1/3 innings of action. He scattered four hits in relief.Rhinelander will close out their regular season action with back to back GNC games at Stafford. First the Hodags will battle Tomahawk on Monday, and then Northland Pines on Tuesday night.
