The Rhinelander Wrestling Club came home with four place winners from the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation's Kids Folkstyle wrestling tournament, which concluded Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
Colton Krueger and Jacob DeMeyer each went 5-1 in the tournament and took third place in their weight classes. Alex Kurtz and Alec Bess each won their first two matches, only to drop three in a row after that and finish in sixth place.
Krueger's only loss in the Boys 2000-01, 165-pound class game in the quarterfinals to Pecatonica's Prestan Rosensteil. He earned four pins on the weekend, including a pin of Rosensteil in a rematch for third place.
DeMeyer lost to Stoughton's Tristan Jenny by a 6-5 decision in the quarters, but won out for third in the 1998-99, 95 pound class.
Gavin Osterman, Patyon Hartman, Dante Steinmetz and Richie Whitford also competed at state for the Hodags. Steinmetz, a former state champ went 2-2 on the weekend. Hartman, a two-time state champ, went 1-2. Both of her losses came in tiebreakers.
