Here's the update from Friday's slate of tournament ball...
GLASGOW, KY - The run at Regionals came to an end for the Rhinelander U14 Softball Team in the quarterfinals, losing to Barron County 2-0 Friday Evening in a game that pitted the fourth seed against the fifth seed. Mara Meyer took the tough luck loss, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 7 stroke outs.
Rhinelander got into that game by virtue of 7-2 win over Elwood earlier in the day. Meyer fanned 11 in the game and Katie Berrell had an inside the park home run.
"I am Very proud of the girls," said coach Jaime McDonald. "They played awesome. Just to have experienced this level of play is something they will never forget. Taking 5th place in this tournament is something to be very proud of.
"The girls and I also want to thank our community and all those who donated and supported us. Without the help of our families, friends, local businesses we never would have been able to be part of this tremendous experience. It's one we will never forget"
Rhinelander went 1-2 in the tournament.
EAU CLAIRE - It was a tough way for the Northwoods 15-Year Old Babe Ruth Babeball All Star Team to end its tournament. They lost 5-4 to Sturgeon Bay 5-4 in eight innings Friday in an elimination game. Northwoods finished 1-2 at the tournament.
