The Rhinelander High School basketball team is fired up, on and off the court. While the Hodags have been putting together arguably their most impressive season in recent memory, they aren't forgetting to give back.
The Hodags are collecting donations for the Rhinelander Food Pantry on February 11th and 12th, in return for free admission to their corresponding home basketball games. The donation is spearheaded by a high school club, the Future Business Leaders of America, to promote generosity and gratitude in the Rhinelander community. Donations will also be collected on February 15th, for the boys home "Bright Out" game.
On February 11th the Hodags have two home Freshman and two home JV games, with the boys' and girls' teams splitting the actions. Parent Teacher conferences are also held that evening, and anyone is welcome to swing by and donate.
The Hodags then host a doubleheader against the Lakeland Thunderbirds on the 12th, and any donation earns a free pass into the game. There will also be a monetary collection to aid the efforts.
"The Food Pantry is part of the Rhinelander community," RHS Athletic Director Charlie LaHam explained. "It is the community giving back and it is a way for the school to give back to the community that has helped them. It allows us to teach our students about giving back and helping benefit the individuals who put them in the places they are. It is a win all around."
Mr. LaHam also recognizes that even in the face of competition, some things have a higher meaning.
"We let the Lakeland Times know about the donations," LaHam said. "We also told Lakeland themselves. They have been good contributors."
So if you find yourself without anything to do early next week, come out and support the Rhinelander Food Pantry with your donations and enjoy a little free basketball. The Hodags, as well as the community, appreciate your efforts.
