ADAMS-FRIENDSHIP – The Northwoods Thunder U16 All-Star Team, comprised of players from the Northwoods Babe Ruth League took second over the weekend at its tune up for the Babe Ruth District 4 Tournament.
The Thunder went 2-1 at the tournament, beating Wisconsin Dells 12-3, losing to Adams-Friendship 4-3 on a play at the plate with two out in the last of the sixth, and defeating Waushara 9-8.
The team consisted of Dom Caroselli, Tyler Thorsen, Alec Baumgartner, Tanner Alsteen, Dylan Wilmot, Brett Mathews and Shane White from Rhinelander, Brandon Wallace, Jake Schlitt and Shane Levan from Eagle River and Gunnar Dunbar from Minocqua.
Mathews led the team in hitting, going 3-6 with a triple. Caroselli and Baumgartner also had three hits over the weekend. Thorsen, Alsteen, Wilmot and Schlitt all had two hits. Alsteen homered in the game against Waushara.
The Northwoods 15-year old All Stars play their district tournament this weekend in Shawano. Meanwhile Northwoods 13-year olds are in Stevens Point and the 14-year olds are in Antigo for district tournaments that begin Thursday.
