The Rhinelander Post 7 American Legion baseball team closed out their regular season over the weekend with a pair of road wins. On Friday night in Whittlesey, the Rebels earned a 10-0 on Friday and would then defeat Clintonville 7-1 on Sunday to finished 17-1 in their regular season schedule. It was another complete team effort not only for Rhinelander’s pitching staff but continue to be strong at the plate.
In their first win against the Raiders, the Rebels cashed in on 10 runs on 14 hits to earn the shut out at Mike Rogier Stadium. And like many of their rallies this season, it started with two outs in the first.
Jacob DeMeyer got on board with a triple to right center, and Brad Comer followed with a double in the same spot to put Rhinelander on the board. Bryce Schickert walked and Abe Laggis had an RBI single to center to score Comer. Jacob Dreifuerst would then drive in two more runs with a double to give the Rebels an early 4-0 advantage.
Rhinelander tacked on a pair of runs in the third inning after Walker Hartman and Dreifuerst connected on RBI singles to push the Rebels lead to six runs. They would again add two runs in the fourth and sixth off Trenton Woebbeking who relieved Nick Retterath.
After back-to-back infield hits in the fourth, Comer grounded out that allowed Easton Senoraske to score. And Laggis would drive in another run on a single. Comer had a hand in both the runs in the sixth; he would drive in the first on a double and would score the other on a throwing error.
Schickert would earn the win on the mound and scattered three hits over six innings of work. He would collect five strikeouts in the shutout.
Rhinelander continued their streak and closed out their regular season Sunday with a 7-1 victory over Clintonville at Olen Park. Comer had a strong night on the mound and the Rebels would score in every inning except the second to earn the six-run win.
Senoraske would get Rhinelander on the board in the first after stealing third base and scoring on a throwing error. Clintonville was score their lone run of the night in the first after Hartman and Dreifuerst both went for a foul pop-up between home and first which allowed Logan Leisenfelder to score from third with no one coving home plate.
After the game was tied up 1-1, the Rebels would take the lead for good in the third frame when DeMeyer drove in Payton Johnson on a single and Senoraske also scored on a passed ball. Rhinelander would take the 3-1 lead and would add four more runs from there.
Danny Zuiker would drive in Dreifuerst in the fourth to put the Rebels ahead three. Comer scored Senoraske on a blooper in the fifth and Randolph scored Hartman on a single in the sixth. Zuiker added another single in the seventh to score Comer.
Senoraske led Rhinelander at the plate and went 3-for-4 in the win. DeMeyer and Zuiker each also added a pair of hits as well.
Comer pitched the first four innings, scattering two hits which was highlighted by seven straight strikeouts. Martin Hoger, Randolph, and Senoraske each pitch one inning in relief.
Rhinelander will host the Class AA Regional 2 tournament beginning on Friday and will conclude Sunday. The Rebels will face Antigo on Friday at 8:00PM at Stafford Field. Northwoods and Shawano will be the final two teams taking part in the regional double elimination tournament.
