The first non-conference meeting between Rhinelander and Lakeland gymnastics team in the middle of December, the Hodags' snuck by 1.1 points but were without several gymnasts. In their second meeting and a Great Northern Conference Small Divisio
Rhinelander would have two of their three varsity starters back in action, and the pair would take first individually in three of the four events. Senior Stephanie Kuester and junior Raven Sturtevant would finish 1-2 in the individual all-around.
Sturtevent would have a career-high of 31.45 in the all-around to finish first over teammate Kuester, who recorded a 31.45 in the all-around. Sturtevent won the floor exercise with an 8.175 and also won the uneven bars 7.65.
Kuester would tally a runner-up finish in three of the four events; vault (8.3), floor exercise (7.95), and uneven bars (7.5) to earn second in the all-around. Senior Makayla Kuester did not compete on the night, and was out due to injury for the second consecutive meet.
Senior Alyssa Mitchell also earned a win for Rhinelander on the night on the balance beam with a score of 7.65. The Hodags went 1-2-3 on the beam with Sturtevant (7.575) placing runner-up and Kuester (7.35) finishing third.
Bridget Koser earned a third-place finish for RHS on the floor exercise, and the Hodags also went 1-2-3 on the floor on the night. Freshman Autumn Shafer placed seventh in the all-around competition with a 26.425 and would add a personal best on uneven bars. Mikayla Evenstad also charted a personal best on the bars in the win.
The Hodags would advance to 2-0 in the GNC Small division standings and will be back in action on Saturday when they compete at the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational.
