The RHS Boys Varsity Basketball team traveled to the Northland Pines gym on Friday, January 24th. The Hodags had audience members holding their breath as they played a tight game against the Eagles.
The boys played at full speed from the minute they hit the court until the final quarter countdown hit zero. Hodag junior Quinn Lamers lead the first half with an impressive 11 points scored. Following him was senior Drake Martin, with 9 points scored in the first half. Hodags trailed by 9 points at the end of the first half, Eagles 42 - Hodags 33.
Coming into the second half, Hodags turned up the pressure and quickly took the lead. There was an feeling of intensity among the stands, watching as both teams went neck and neck until the very last minute. In the final moments of the game, the teams stood tied at 72-72 with only 1:13 left in the game and the Eagles with the ball. Working down the clock, Northland Pines was able to get 2 points and left the Hodags with only 2.6 seconds left on the clock. The Hodags where able to get one more shot off but it was not meant to be, as the Eagles pull off the win at home.
The Hodag Boys showed great teamwork and dedication to come from behind and make it a close game.
